1875–1878
The Pulsometer Engineering Company Ltd was founded in 1878 by British engineer John Eliot Hodgkin and Mathias Neuhaus.
The company’s origins date back to 1875, when they acquired the patent rights to the Pulsometer Pump from American inventor Thomas Hall. Prior to 1878, the company operated as Hodgkin, Neuhaus and Co.
1887
The Pulsometer Engineering Company acquired the patents of Frederick Hale Holmes.
1901
The Pulsometer Engineering Company relocated from London to new premises in Reading, UK, where it rapidly expanded its operations.
1908
The company acquired Easton, Anderson and Goolden / Easton and Co.
1951
The company acquired Joseph Evans and Sons.
1961
The Pulsometer Engineering Company amalgamated with Sigmund Pumps of Gateshead, creating one of the largest pump companies in Europe.
The new company became known as Sigmund Pulsometer Pumps — SPP for short.
1970
SPP pumps installed on the Argyll platform helped deliver the very first North Sea oil to come ashore.
1986
SPP acquired Henry Sykes plc, adding the renowned Sykes pumps to its product range.
The Sykes facility in Coleford, Gloucestershire, was redeveloped, and in 1987 all SPP Pumps manufacturing operations were relocated from Reading to Coleford, where manufacturing continues today.
1989
Following a brief period of ownership by the Braithwaite Group, SPP Pumps was acquired by the TBG Group in 1989 as part of Sterling Fluid Systems.
2003
SPP Pumps was acquired by its parent company, Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL).
2004
SPP Pumps LP was established as a separate US-based business entity in Norcross, Georgia, USA.
2024
SPP Pumps formed a joint venture with Netherlands-based Rodelta, creating SPP-Rodelta.
The partnership focuses on overhung pumps for severe-duty applications in hazardous environments, including oil, gas, petrochemicals, and energy storage.
2025
SPP Pumps is now a global company, with its main R&D, manufacturing, and testing facilities centrally located in the UK.
The company also operates local sales, production, testing, and service sites across the USA, India, France, Italy, Poland, South Africa, Singapore, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
